Competencies and Skills

  • Working understanding of corporate governance principles, frameworks, and regulatory
    requirements.
  • Familiarity with legal requirements and compliance related to board and council operations,
    including relevant local and international laws.
  • Understanding of the Institute’s structure, culture, and strategic objectives to provide
    relevant advice and support.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain the highest levels of
    ethical conduct.
  • Ability to provide strategic advice to the Governing Council and work effectively with
    senior leadership, including the CEO.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles to help mitigate risks in governance processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting reports, minutes, and
    correspondence, and for effective interaction with Council members and stakeholders.
  • Organizing meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and ensuring timely follow-up
    on action items.
  • Coordinating logistics and managing documentation.
  • Ensuring accuracy in all records, minutes, reports, and compliance-related documentation.
  • Managing multiple tasks and deadlines, often for complex governance activities and
    compliance timelines.
  • Ability to interact professionally with the Governing Council, senior executives, and
    external stakeholders, building strong working relationships.
  • Proficiency in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), meeting management tools,
    and document management systems.
  • Ability to review and critically appraise data and empirical literature
  • Advanced knowledge of a range of research and evaluation methods and their application.
