About
Mr. Walter Kweku Awuah is a multi-disciplinary professional with over 15 years of experience spanning banking operations, corporate governance, project and risk management, economic policy, and strategic leadership. He currently serves as Head of Governance and Business Planning and Secretary to the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana, where he leads the Institute’s strategic planning function, corporate governance architecture, and Council operations in line with the CIB Ghana Act, 2019 (Act 991).
Walter is a Chartered Banker (ACIB) and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana. He also holds a professional certificate in Project Management from Google LLC, USA, and a diploma in Strategic Marketing Management from the Institute of Commercial Management, UK. He is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) both globally and in Ghana.
Academically, he holds a Master of Project Management with distinction from GIMPA, an Executive Masters in Conflict, Peace and Security KAIPTC, an MPhil in Economics from University of Ghana, and a BA (Hons) in Economics & Geography from KNUST. He is also an alumnus of the UN Graduate Study Programme in Geneva, Switzerland and the African Economic Research Consortium’s Collaborative Master’s Programme in Arusha, Tanzania.
Prior to joining CIB Ghana, Walter held senior roles in banking and strategy, including Chief Strategy Officer at Cedimaker, Branch Manager and Operations Manager at National Investment Bank. His experience extends to consulting and auditing for organizations in financial services, development finance, INGOs, and the public sector across the West African sub-region.
A skilled communicator and leadership development advocate, Walter has facilitated numerous executive workshops, authored research on economic and development issues, and served on boards in education, leadership, and agribusiness. His work continues to reflect integrity, innovation, and a commitment to excellence in institutional leadership.
